We are introducing a 20mph zone and suspending parking bays on Old Middlewich Road from its junction with Middlewich Road (near the existing pedestrian crossing) through to its junction with Hightown. This will create space for two-way cycling on Old Middlewich Road to improve cycle access to the town centre. Enforcement of double yellow lines at the far western extent of Old Middlewich Road (close to Middlewich Road) will also be reviewed to improve compliance. A Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) will be put in place to enable this change to be implemented. A TTRO is the legal process that the Council must follow to enable this change.
Following feedback on the Old Middlewich Road measure we propose to reduce the width of the cycle lane to allow cycling southbound only in the segregated area, allow northbound vehicles and cyclists on the road and restore the time limited parking bays on the northbound side. We will also take the opportunity to reduce the number of bollards making up the cycle lane.
We are also implementing 20mph speed limits on main roads and residential roads around the town centre. The areas originally included are the residential roads leading from:
Following feedback we propose to return the speed limit on the A533 to 30mph, reduce the 20mph area to south of the commons roundabout on Congleton Road and from Offley Road.
We would like to hear your views on these proposed changes. You can do this any time between 3 February and 3 March 2021
